East Sussex Healthcare Maternity review
An external review of maternity services has taken place with external Midwifery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics expertise under the independent chairmanship of Oliver Mills to consider how maternity services can be provided to meet the needs of local mothers and babies in the future.
Model of care recommended by the Review Board
I am pleased to report that the Trust Board has agreed that the model of care recommended by the Review Board should be the basis for the next stage of work it is undertaking on the development of its Clinical Strategy ‘Shaping our Future’.
This next stage will see the Trust work with local people and stakeholders across all eight service areas including maternity services to:
- Develop the options for the future delivery of the agreed models of care including those options that will deliver productivity and efficiency improvements as well as those that may require the redesign or reconfiguration of services.
- Develop the criteria against which the delivery options will be appraised.
- Undertake an initial options appraisal taking into account the impact, risks and benefits of each option at an individual service and organisational level.
This stage of the work will help to inform any future public consultation that the Trust may undertake on the future options for delivering these services.
