Both Conquest and Eastbourne Hospitals are served by their respective Chaplaincy Teams. The Conquest Team is also responsible for Bexhill Hospital.
Together with the Hospital Bereavement Service they form the Chaplaincy and Pastoral Services Department.
The teams are led by full-time Chaplains on both sites:

They are supported by a part-time Administrator and several sessional Chaplains from the Church of England, Roman Catholic and Free Churches.
In addition they are pleased to have the help of around 150 volunteer helpers and visitors drawn from numerous local worshipping communities. The Teams also have active contacts with all the major world faiths that are represented locally.
The Chaplaincy Team seek to provide spiritual and pastoral support which addresses the religious, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and their families whilst in our care, as well as supporting the staff in their work.
They are part of the healing team within the Trust working with nursing and medical staff and Human Resources. The service is unconditional and open to everyone.
Their work includes sacramental and prayerful support as well as counsel in sensitive healthcare situations such as grief and loss, new diagnosis and the anticipation of restricted life or death.
Duties include:
- Being available for listening in absolute confidence.
- Offering encouragement and support.
- Prayer with patients and families.
- Provision of Sacraments (Holy Communion/Holy Anointing).
- Leading or directing religious worship.
- The provision of devotional material.
- Making spiritual assessment and providing direction
Mourning with those who are sorrowful and experiencing loss.
- Rejoicing with parents of the new-born and those whose quality of life has been improved.
- Maintaining active contact with all local faith communities.
The resolution of conflict among staff, patients and families.
- Advocacy – speaking on behalf of patients, families and staff.
- Supporting staff in personal crisis and work issues.
- Participating in healthcare ethics programmes.
- Involvement in induction and interdisciplinary education.
Advice and information concerning the provision of sensitive healthcare to those who embrace a religious faith.
