The Friends of the Eastbourne Hospitals special project for 2013
To raise funds to equip a new Day Surgery Theatre at Eastbourne DGH
The Friends of the Eastbourne Hospitals Special Project for 2013 is to raise money towards equipping a New Day Surgery Theatre at the Eastbourne DGH. This theatre will be in addition to the two existing day surgery theatres at the hospital. It will help to increase the number of day surgery cases carried out within the Trust each year, making a positive difference for many patients.
Day surgery is best defined as ‘the admission of selected patients to hospital for a planned operation, returning home the same day’. The benefits of this increasingly popular approach to treatment are:
Patients are able to recover from an operation in their own homes, which greatly reduces stress and the risk of picking up a hospital acquired infection. Cancellation of surgery in a dedicated day surgery unit, due to emergency pressures, is unlikely and patients are given guaranteed admission dates. Obese patients and those with complex medical conditions may also benefit from day case surgery.
Clinicians are able to provide high quality care for appropriate patients, releasing in patient beds for more major cases. A new theatre at the DGH will enable a larger variety of operations to be carried out as day cases, for example breast surgery and more emergent work that would traditionally have been managed as an in patient.
The Hospital can treat more patients, reducing waiting lists and costs whilst improving the patient experience.
The surgical team at the Eastbourne DGH aim to develop a Day Surgery Unit that the staff can continue to be proud of; with cutting edge facilities and a dynamic working environment.
Please help the Friends to raise funds so that they can achieve their goal.
