Medical Education

Welcome

We would like to welcome everyone who has chosen to work and study here. The Medical Education team is here to support your learning.  Everyone has problems at some time, and the team is here to make sure that you gain as much as possible while you are here, particularly as patient care and learning go together.

There are other bodies with responsibilities (eg the trust via the Medical Director for performance issues) and the Royal Colleges through examinations and setting the curricula. There are also other support networks, including Occupational Health.

The clinical tutors manage the training environment at each site (Conquest and Eastbourne). The medical education managers are available for issues as they arise. There are “SAS Tutors” for doctors not in formal training programmes.

The formal structure means that every trainee has a nominated Educational Supervisor, who reports into one of the Local Faculty Groups which reports into the Local Academic Board.

The Local Faculty Groups meet three times a year, with trainee representatives, medical staffing, library and educational supervisors.

Every trainee’s progress is monitored. Each Local Faculty Group is chaired by a College Tutor (for speciality training), a GP Training Programme Director or Foundation Training Program Director (for Foundation Programme) or sub-Dean (medical students). The Local Academic Board is chaired by the Director of Medical Education. The Deaneries monitor the Local Academic Board and do formal visits.
