Staff overcome difficult period to maintain top care

Staff working on a medical ward have been praised for maintaining a high level of care for patients despite experiencing a traumatic period.

Staff on Newington Ward at Conquest Hospital have gone through an upsetting few months following the death of three members of Trust staff on the ward, including one who was a member of the ward team.

The ward, which cares for Haematology, Oncology and Gastroenterology patients, received the Trust Monthly Staff Award at a recent Board Meeting and were praised by Trust Chairman Irene Dibben.

She said: “The staff have all met these challenges with great compassion, professionalism and courage while still providing a high level of care to all their patients. They are a fine example of the compassion, dedication and professionalism I see around this Trust all the time.”
