McCartney Day Unit praised for excellent work
The McCartney Day Unit at Conquest Hospital has been praised for the excellent service they provide cancer patients.
Staff on the unit received the Trust monthly staff award for their high level of commitment, professionalism and hard work.
The unit is a medical and chemotherapy day unit offering specialist
services to patients with medical, cancer, haematological disorders and
other chronic diseases. They were nominated by Dr Judy Beard,
Haematology Consultant and Trust Lead Cancer Clinician.
She said: “I spend a lot of my time on the McCartney Unit and am
continually amazed how they cope with the high and ever increasing
volume of chemotherapy and medical day case patients. They frequently
work beyond their hours and rarely take meal breaks because they do not
wish to keep patients waiting or to compromise their high standard of
care. We know from patient surveys and the huge piles of boxes of
chocolates and biscuits they receive that the patients are highly
appreciative of their services.”
