Patients praise hospital care

Patients have praised the care they received in the Trust’s hospitals.

Two recent surveys carried out by the Trust show an increase in satisfaction rates in patients who have used services at Conquest Hospital, Eastbourne DGH and the Trust’s community hospitals: Crowborough War Memorial Hospital, Uckfield Community Hospital, Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital, Lewes Victoria Hospital, Bexhill Hospital and Firwood House in Eastbourne.

The surveys asked patients on discharge about their experience while in hospital during the third quarter of the current financial year between October and December.

They showed:

  • Satisfaction is very high with 98% of patients at the community hospitals, 98% at Conquest Hospital and 96% at Eastbourne DGH rating their care as excellent, very good or good. These figures are an increase in satisfaction compared to the previous quarter.
  • The majority of patients felt they were always treated with respect and dignity, with 90% at the community hospitals, 90% at Conquest Hospital and 87% at Eastbourne DGH.
  • Almost all patients felt they were given privacy when being examined, with 95% at the community hospitals, 96% at Conquest Hospital and 92% at Eastbourne DGH.
  • The majority of patients felt staff explained the reasons for their treatment in a way they could understand.
  • Trust in nurses and other health professionals remains at a high level at all the hospitals.
  • Patients continued to feel they were being kept involved in decisions about their care and treatment.

Jane Hentley, Director of Nursing, said: “The excellent results from the survey reflect the hard work undertaken by all our staff on the front line. The Trust is committed to creating a more people-centred service so patient experience and public involvement is crucial to us. It allows us to know what our patients like about the service they are getting and what works for them. It also shows us areas that may need improving so we can focus on improving the overall experience for everyone.”
