On-going projects

  • Working with Medical Staffing and Junior Doctor representatives to work out workable rotas to comply with the European Working Time Directive and maintain the educational value of posts and advising the Department of Health.
  • Working with suspended doctors and those needing career guidance.
  • Writing a junior doctors' Handbook.  This contains policies, guidelines, etc. which is updated this every year, and also run the Induction Program for 200 junior doctors each year.
  • Developing a multi-disciplinary Hand Service, with a dedicated Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Orthopaedic Technician.  We are trying new ways of working (with physiotherapy-led post-operative care, etc.)
  • Developing Patient information sheets for common conditions.
  • Starting a scheme for "Fast-Tracking" of patients with fractured neck of femur, from the A&E Department, through the acute Trauma ward and to the operating theatre.  This is showing excellent results in reducing cancellations.
  • Managing Medical Education for over 500 doctors and medical students at two acute hospitals.
  • Instructing on Advanced Trauma Life Support Courses and teach and examine on the MSc Course in Orthopaedics.
